Black-browed Albatross – Falkland Islands 2003.

Falkland Islands Post collaborated with Bird Life International issued the stamps series depicted the Black-browed Albatross in the souvenir sheet. The sheet have printed logo of Bird Life International and logo of Falkland Conservation. The theme is Save the Albatross.
The Black-browed Albatross or Thalassarche melanophrys, is a large sea bird of the albatross family Diomedeidae.It is referring to its black plumage around its eyes, the bird was given the name melanophrus which comes from two Greek words; melas or melanos meaning black, and ophrus which means the eyebrow.

Tristan da Cunha Post Office issued the stamp series of Albatross from their islands, Atlantic Yellow-nosed Albatross. Logo of Birdlife International marked on stamps as evidence that the stamps have issued in colaboration between Tristan da Cunha with Birdlife International organization.on year 2003.

The Atlantic Yellow-nosed Albatross, Thalassarche chlororhynchos, is a large seabird in the albatross family. The bird size is averages 81 cm in length. The Atlantic Yellow-nosed Albatross is typical black and white mollymawk with a grey head and large eye patch, and its nape and hindneck are white. Other distinctintive  on the bill  is black with a yellow culmenicorn and a pink tip. The Atlantic Yellow-nosed Albatross has a blackish grey saddle, tail and upperwing, and its underparts are predominantly white.It Its underwing and primaries show a narrow black margin. The juvenile is similar to the adult but with a white head and black bill. 

Masked Booby – Ascension Island 2004

The Masked Booby has been featured on the stamps that has issued by Ascension Island on year 2004 with the collaboration of Birdlife International. The logo of Birdlife International and RSPB marked on stamp.

The Masked Booby, Sula dactylatra, is a large seabird of the gannet family, Sulidae. This species breeds on islands in tropical oceans, except in the eastern Atlantic. The Masked Boobies are spectacular divers, plunging diagonally into the ocean at high speed. They mainly eat small fish, including flying fish.

The Masked booby is the largest booby, at 81–91 cm long, and with a 152 cm wingspan and 1500 g weight.The distinctive characteristics are white colour with pointed black wings, a pointed black tail, and a dark grey facemask. The male has a yellow bill and the female’s is greenish yellow. Juveniles are brownish on the head and upperparts, with a whitish rump and neck collar. The underparts are white.

Jamaica Post Administration issued the miniature sheet composed of 5 (five) stamps depicted Jamaican Blackbird (Nesopsar nigerrimus) , from young  grow to adult species. The logo of Bird Life International and logo of Bird Life Jamaica marked on the sheet.

The Jamaican Blackbird (Nesopsar nigerrimus) is a small icterid with all black plumage and has a short tail that is often frayed . The Jamaican Blackbird  has shorter legs and longer claws that typical icterids, uses its tail for support when climbing tree trunks, both of which are adaptations to its niche, and has a longer bill and stronger jaw muscles. The Jamaican Blackbird or Nepsopsar nigerrimus  is the only species (monotypic) in the genus Nesopsar. The species is endemic to Jamaica, where it is restricted to Cockpit Country, some central areas and the Blue and John Crow Mountains. The majority of the food taken by this species is found on the trunks of trees and their inner branches, feeding on animal prey, mostly insects, which it finds in bark or in bromeliads. The Jamaican Blackbird is strictly arboreal and has a wheezing call.

The Wirebird, Charadrius sanctaehelenae,or Saint Helena Plover, is a small wader endemic to the island of Saint Helena and has thin leg.This plover is resident all year on the open areas of Saint Helena, and it is thought that the widespread deforestation on the island, while generally harmful for the island's ecosystem, has in fact benefitted this particular species, since it lives in open clearings in the forest.Only some 200-220 adult birds are believed to remain.the Saint Helena Plover is uplisted to Critically Endangered with extinction in the 2007 IUCN Red List.

Red-footed Booby . British Indian Ocean Territory 2002

The Postal Administration of British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT) issued a souvenir sheet composed of 5 pieces stamps depicted the Red-footed Booby or Sula sula. The face value of each stamps are same, 50 p. Logo of Bird Life International marked on the top right corner of sheet.


The Red-footed Booby  or Sula sula is the smallest of all boobies. The size approximately are 70 centimetres in length and a wingspan of up to 1 metre.The other distinctive description are red legs, and bill include throat pouch are coloured pink and blue. 

The Red-footed Booby or Sula sula has several morphs. In the white morph the plumage is mostly white (the head often tinged yellowish) and the flight feathers are black. The brown morph is overall brown. The white-tailed brown morph is similar, but has a white belly, rump, and tail. The white-headed and white-tailed brown morph has a mostly white body, tail and head, and brown wings and back. The morphs commonly breed together, but in most regions one or two morphs predominates; e.g. at the Galápagos Islands, most belong to the brown morph, though the white morph also occurs. The souvenir sheet marked logo of Bird Lilfe International and Logo of the Birdlife World Bird Festival 2001.This sheet issued in conjunction of the Birdlife World Bird Festival 2001.



The Seychelles scops-owl or called Otus insularis only found in Morne Seychellois National Park. This species also known as Bare-legged Scops-owl is a rare scops owl species.It was noticed by year 2002 that the population was stable at about 318 individuals. Therefore the Seychelles scops-owl listed by the IUCN as critically dangered species.

Crab Plover – British Indian Ocean Territory 2001




The Postal Administration of British Indian Ocean Territory issued a souvenir sheet composed of 5 pieces stamps depicted the Crab Plover (Dromas ardeola) bird. The face value of each stamps are same 50p. The stamps issued conjucted with the World Bird Festival 2001. Logo of the festival and Bird Life International have marked on the sheet.

The Crab plover is resident on the coasts and islands of the Indian Ocean, where it feeds on crabs and other small animals and resembles a plover, but has very long grey legs and a strong heavy black bill similar to a tern. The Crab plover has black-and-white plumage, partially webbed-toes and long-necked upright posture with heavy bill. This is makes it distinctive and unmistakable. Its bill is unique among waders, and specialised for eating crabs.
